Today we do a sightseeing tour of Fort Cochin and Mattancherry, where most of the historic buildings are located in amongst the narrow streets. There is time to wander round the tiny back streets of Jew Town hunting for souvenirs in the many antique shops and warehouses. In the evening, experience a Kathakali performance. This Keralan dance is an ornately costumed display of storytelling, requiring complete control of the body.

Post breakfast, we drive to Thekkady. Upon arrival, check into your hotel and settle down. Today, we will visit one of the spice plantations in the region and get to know the different spices that are cultivated here along with their significance in Indian cuisine.

We get up early morning today for a guided walk of the Periyar tiger reserve. We will be accompanied by naturalists.
Later today, you have an opportunity to witness Kalaripayattu, the traditional martial arts form of Kerala.

Travelling by private vehicle, pass through rubber, tea and coffee plantations on the way to the backwaters of Kerala. Board a boat to cross to the island village where you’ll stay with a local family tonight. In the late afternoon, explore the island with a local English-speaking guide or your homestay host. This is great chance to meet locals and learn more about their unique way of life. Take a leisurely punt boat ride around the waterways and enjoy the scenery. In the evening, share stories and a traditional home-cooked Keralan meal with your host family.
